Federal and State Grants
What are Grants?
Grants are need-based funds provided by federal and state governments that do not have to be repaid. Students must meet eligibility requirements to be eligible for federal and state grants. Pell and State grants are automatically awarded once a completed FAFSA is on file with the school. FSEOG is awarded before disbursements. Below is a list of grant programs available at Vance-Granville Community College.

Federal Pell Grant
Award Amount
Pell will be awarded three ways for 2024-25, split equally between Fall and Spring.
- Maximum Pell: $7,395
- Minimum Pell: $740
- According to the SAI, will vary between the minimum and maximum
Additional Pell Information
Pell does not have to be repaid unless a student does not complete at least 60% of the period enrolled during the semester. Then, the award will be prorated, and the student may be required to repay this school any amount awarded over the new award amount.
Lifetime Eligibility: 600% or the equivalent of 12 full-time semesters

Summer Pell 2025
If you are enrolled full-time in both fall and spring, you use 100% of your 600% available Pell lifetime eligibility. Any credit hours you take the following summer will use an additional amount of your lifetime eligibility. The number of credit hours required for Pell eligibility will be the same for summer as for Fall and Spring.

The award amount varies based on the number of eligible students
Additional FSEOG Information
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant provides grants to eligible students, which do not have to be repaid. Pell Grant recipients receive priority consideration. This fund may also be used on a case-by-case basis to assist students with balances at the college. However, they must be Pell-eligible students.
State Grants

(Replacing North Carolina Scholarship)
Priority Deadline
All semesters: August 15, 2024
Eligibility
- A North Carolina resident who is eligible for in-state tuition
- A high school graduate or its equivalent
- From a household with an annual Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $80,000 or less
- Enrolled in an eligible undergraduate curriculum program for the 2024-2025 academic year
- Taking at least 6 credit hours per semester (part-time students will receive a partial award)
- Meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
- A SAI of 7500 or less
Note
NC Community College students are guaranteed at least $3,000 from combined federal and state aid.
